Prenatal Testosterone Levels and Autism

There is a remarkable new article at the Edge website by Simon Baron-Cohen. He is a  Professor of Developmental Psychopathology and Director of the Autism Research Centre at Cambridge University, a Fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge. He is also the author of the book “The Science of Evil; The Essential Difference.”

He is describing the thought processes, methods, and the findings of this study which has been going on for the last decade. In this article he discusses a wide array of topics related to biological differences of male and female brain. Since Autism is more frequently seen among boys they suspected that the prenatal levels of the testosterone hormone might be correlated with the development of Autism. They discovered strong evidence for that hypothesis.

This is a very important article. The Q&A section is also very interesting. A “must read” in my opinion. I highly recommend it.
