Sanskrit term Purusha should be translated as Soul

In the spiritual philosophy literature the Sanskrit term Purua (pronounced Purusha) is often translated into English as “consciousness.” In my opinion the English word Soul is a better word for Purusha.

In the Definitions and Summary of Soul Monism, I mentioned the terms Absolute Being, Reality, Cosmic Soul and indicated some their synonyms.

Synonyms for Absolute Being: Godhead, Nirguna Brahma, Pure Consciousness.

Synonyms for Reality: Saguna Brahma, Supreme Being, Qualified Consciousness,  Infinite Life, Eternal Life, Living God, Yah, Haq.

Synonyms for Cosmic Soul: Cosmic Consciousness, Cosmic Nucleus, Divine Center, Parama Purusha, Purushottoma, Self, One, Source, Paramatman.

It is clear that the English term “soul” corresponds to the term “purusha” in Sanskrit. Parama Purusha literally means Cosmic Soul.

The second point of this post is to remind you that manifestation starts with the Cosmic Soul. All entities have a ‘reference’ to the Cosmic Soul and that’s how they exist.

The soul whether it is a unit soul or the cosmic soul is a special perspective on Godhead (Pure Consciousness). The perspective of the soul is special because it is a vantage point where the distinctions between manifested and unmanifested disappear.

Parama Purusha is the Cosmic Soul.  Parama Purusha is the Cosmic Consciousness.  Parama Purusha is the Divine Center which is the starting point of the divine transformation. Parama Purusha witnesses, substantiates and controls the entire Cosmos. Parama Purusha knows our innermost feelings, and thoughts. He is the soul of our soul. Parama Purusha is the supreme subjectivity. Parama Purusha is God.
